Coventry construction firm answers call from school councillors to fund new classroom blinds

A Midlands construction company has answered the call of school councillors to install vital new blinds in classrooms at their Holbrooks school.

Pupils at Holy Family Catholic Primary School had been campaigning for new blinds to be installed in four classrooms at the school.

The current blinds were in a state of disrepair and impacting on lessons, with the sun getting in children’s eyes and reducing visibility for smart boards.

Deeley Group, a Coventry headquartered construction and development company, stepped in to fund and install the new blinds.

The work has been funded through The Deeley Group Charity and trustees from the charity visited the school to see the completed work and speak to pupils and teachers.

Holy Family Catholic Primary School is a two-form entry school and is celebrating 70 years since it opened in 1955.

The school includes 450 pupils and is part of Eco-Schools, the largest sustainability schools programme in the world. The international programme guides schools on their sustainable journey, including encouraging pupils to engage with their local communities.

This ethos drives the school council at Holy Family and led to the funding being secured from Deeley Group for the new blinds.

Clare Twycross, Deputy Headteacher at Holy Family Catholic Primary School, said: “Small things like this can make a big difference for the children and the school council decided that fixing the blinds was a priority.

“We are really grateful for the support from Deeley Group and it has transformed the learning experience in four of our classrooms.

“The pupils have written a letter of thanks for the donation and they really are delighted.”

The trustees of the Deeley Group Charity are Peter Deeley, Carol Maughan, Matt Lynch, Chris Newman, Vicky Hancocks and Joshua Hendy.

Carol Maughan, Trustee of the Deeley Group Charity, said: “It was an incredibly rewarding visit to the school and it was wonderful to have the chance to speak to pupils about how the new blinds are improving their learning experience.

“It was clear how important this was to the children and we even received a book of thank you letters, which we’ll be sharing with colleagues at the office.

“These are exactly the sort of projects that we are looking to support through the charity. It’s also important for us that we build long term relationships and we are already planning to come back to Holy Family to carry out some volunteering work.”
